After the summer break, we are back with another Beyond Code edition. We spotlight Goran Yordanov, a Senior Database Developer at Anthill. Initially resistant to the allure of coding, Goran found himself drawn to the intellectual stimulation and challenges that a developer role offers. Join us as we uncover his enriching journey in the fast-paced world of software development.
Q: Tell us about you and your career journey as a software developer.
Goran: My journey into the world of software development has been quite fascinating. Initially, I started studying at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with the intention of forging an IT career as an Administrator. At that time, the thought of becoming a developer was far from my mind, especially since coding didn’t appeal to me. However, as time progressed, I found myself bored doing the same things every day and needed something more intellectually stimulating. This desire for a challenge eventually led me to get into a developer role in 2014, a decision that marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my career.
Q: Can you describe your role at Anthill and what a typical day looks like for you?
In my current position as a Database Developer at Anthill, my day-to-day responsibilities revolve around managing JENKINS pipelines and JAMS jobs – weird, huh?
Q: Please describe your job in a way that a 3-year-old would understand it.
I am a keeper of the Data.
Q: How do you stay current with the latest technologies and trends in software development?
Reading the latest news articles and following a decent number of blogs. In the end, it’s all about practice.
Q: What was your motivation to join Anthill’s team?
My motivation to join the Anthill team was quite personal. An old friend, Martin, reached out to me with an opportunity to work together again, an offer I was more than happy to accept.
Q: How does Anthill encourage and support its software developers to pursue their own interests?
Anthill is highly supportive of its employees’ growth and development. It encourages learning new cutting-edge technologies and obtaining certifications. Being flexible is one of the most advanced ways of giving a person the freedom to follow their own path.
Q: Last but not least, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spending time with my family and other people. Anything fun would get my attention.
